Lombard Street in San Francisco is the crookedest street that runs between Hyde and Leavenworth Streets with one-block section with eight hairpin turns. It holds the Guinness Book of World Record title for the “Most Crooked Road”.
This unique vertically endowed road descends 27% percent down hill. It allows one-way traffic down the hill and the speed limit is 5 mph.
Whether driving down the street or walking up & down the pedestrian walkway, this street will surely give you an Adrenaline rush. Alfred Hitchcock’s movie “Vertigo” featured this crooked street. Chase scenes in many films have been filmed on the street, including Good Neighbor Sam, Dr. Goldfoot and the Bikini Machine, What’s Up, Doc?, Magnum Force, and Ant-Man and the Wasp. Lombard Street is also portrayed in the 2015 Pixar film Inside Out, and is referenced by Bill Cosby on his 1965 comedy album Why Is There Air?.
