Big Bear Lake is a mountain lake destination in Southern California with year-round outdoor activities.
We went there in Summer 2024 for our weekend retreat. Though it was bit hot, we still enjoyed some outdoor time at Big Bear Lake watching the sunset by the lake and exploring a couple of trails at the Snow Summit and by the lake.
It is a city in San Bernardino County, California, located in the San Bernardino Mountains along the south shore of Big Bear Lake, and surrounded by the San Bernardino National Forest.
Big Bear Lake is Southern California’s #1 four-season outdoor destination. That means you get a different Big Bear experience in every season.
The fall season brings the most vibrant foliage you’ll find in Southern California. Walk The Village to marvel at crimson red and radiant yellow leaves on maples and oaks lining the streets. Sit for a hot coffee and enjoy the crisp autumn air.
Big Bear’s winter slopes and terrain parks at Snow Summit and Bear Mountain are a haven for skiers and snowboarders. But, there’s more to Big Bear than its ski resorts, speed down the snow tubing hills in town or strap on the snowshoes and venture into the snowy forest!
As the winter snow melts away, springtime brings new growth, gorgeous wildflowers, and a whole new set of adventures to Big Bear – like premium trout fishing and epic outdoor events. Big Bear’s pine forests offer miles of hiking & biking trails through changing landscapes. Take in the sweeping views on foot, bike, horseback, and even four wheels when you hit the many off-road trails.
Summer season recreation ranges from on the water fun like fishing, boating, paddle sports, jet skiing, and wakeboarding, to shoreline relaxation. Twenty-two miles of shoreline invite you to lay out in the sun and enjoy panoramic views.
Happy Traveling and Exploring!
